What is chronic tonsillitis?

If one has had many throat infections, it sometimes happens that the bacteria survive in a kind of dormant state in the tonsils. Each time an infection occurs in the pharynx for another reason, the dormant bacteria are activated, and renewed tonsillitis can occur. With repeated tonsillitis, foul-tasting and foul-smelling waste products/plugs accumulate in the tonsils.

Frequent tonsillitis and plugs in the tonsils are the typical reasons for choosing to remove the tonsils by operation.

What are enlarged tonsils?

It can occur that the tonsils become so greatly enlarged that they affect breathing. Especially during sleep this is a problem, as it can impede nocturnal breathing so that one becomes tired and listless during the day. The large tonsils can also affect swallowing function.
