Rheumatology

At CPH Privathospital, our rheumatologists examine and treat pain in muscles, joints and bones. Rheumatology is therefore the examination and treatment of connective tissue diseases, rheumatic diseases – such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis – or strain injuries arising from work or sport.

These diseases are characterised by prolonged loss of function due to pain in joints, muscles and the back.

What is rheumatology?

Rheumatology is a medical speciality that diagnoses and treats medical diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

Typical symptoms are:

  • Localised pain, tenderness or restricted movement in, for example, elbows, hips, knees and shoulders.
  • Localised pain in feet and hands
  • Morning stiffness or swollen joints as a sign of rheumatoid arthritis or so-called reactive arthritis
  • Pain conditions in general
  • Age-related changes such as osteoarthritis in hips, knees, hands and back.
  • Connective tissue diseases affecting skin, muscles, joints, mucous membranes and internal organs.

Examinations and treatments

Our rheumatologists offer rapid and precise diagnosis, targeted medical treatment and rehabilitation plans in the following areas:

  • Joint diseases
  • Localised pain conditions
  • Back disorders

We allow ample time for the consultation

At CPH Privathospital we take good time with each individual. It is not a requirement that you have prepared from home, but it can be a good idea to ask yourself some questions before meeting with the doctor.

If you are well prepared for your first consultation, the time will usually be spent examining the area that is bothering you, rather than using the time to clarify what the problem is. In this way, our rheumatologists can more quickly conclude whether you need further diagnostics, or whether you should start directly with a treatment plan.

Here are 10 questions you can prepare for:
1. What do you perceive as the problem?
2. How did the problem arise? And how long has it been going on?
3. What does the problem mean for your life and your daily routine?
4. Have you already tried any treatment? And what has the effect been?
5. Do you have other diseases besides this particular problem? And do you have arthritis in your family?
6. Where is the pain located?
7. How long have you had the pain? And is it constant?
8. Do you only have pain during movement? Or also at rest and at night?
9. How does the pain feel? – burning, stabbing, aching, other?
10. How severe is your pain on a scale from 0-10?

It can also be a good idea to keep a pain diary.
