What is tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow?

Tennis elbow/golfer’s elbow is an overuse injury on the inner and outer side of the elbow joint, respectively.  
In connection with overloading, a non-bacterial inflammatory condition of the tissue develops.  

Causes of tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow

The symptoms often occur after brief and intense overloading, which is most often work-related. Typically, overloading is seen with mouse and keyboard work. Manual workers are also an exposed group due to hard and repetitive strain. In addition, it is also seen in athletes. 

Symptoms of tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow

• Pain radiating to the forearm
• Pain radiating to the upper arm 
• The pain worsens with strain. 

The examination

The diagnosis can be made by a clinical examination often combined with ultrasound scanning. 

The treatment

First, we must find the triggering cause of your symptoms and take a break from the triggering cause. You may need to change your working position or work functions.
The treatment will be stretching and strengthening exercises, and our physiotherapists can guide you if necessary. The condition can be prolonged.

It may be necessary to supplement the treatment with anti-inflammatory medication and possibly injections with corticosteroid.
