Biography
Allan Ibsen Sørensen is a consultant in orthopaedic surgery with a speciality in hand surgery.
Allan is one of the country’s leading experts in inserting artificial joints in the wrist, the base and middle joints of the fingers and the base joint of the thumb, ligament reconstructions and Dupuytren’s contracture. At CPH Privathospital, Allan is the specialist-responsible hand surgeon and he performs all types of hand surgery procedures.
He carried out quality assurance and research projects on artificial hand and finger joints at Rigshospitalet and in collaboration with international hand surgery centres.
Since 2010, Allan has been a senior consultant at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, and is about to perform Northern Europe’s first hand transplant.
Years of education and appointments
- Allan graduated as a doctor from the University of Copenhagen in 1983 and is a consultant in orthopaedic surgery with training in hand surgery at the university hospitals Rigshospitalet and Gentofte Hospital. And a consultant in hand surgery in Sweden.

Current and previous workplaces
Since 1995, Allan has worked exclusively in hand surgery, and he has, among other things, been responsible for hand surgical treatment and head of function for orthopaedic surgery in the former Vestsjælland County.
From 2002-2010, Allan was a senior consultant at the Hand Surgery Section, Rigshospitalet. There he covered the entire spectrum of advanced hand surgical conditions, and was also responsible for arthroscopic and endoscopic hand surgery (keyhole technique in joints and for carpal tunnel syndrome) as well as for the nationwide function for hand surgical treatment of chronic rheumatoid arthritis. He introduced needle technique for the treatment of trigger finger.
