Deviated nasal septum

A deviated nasal septum can be troublesome and lead to reduced airflow through the nose.  Often one does not know that one has a deviated nasal septum until it is examined by a doctor.

What is a nasal septum?

The nasal cavity is divided into two halves by a nasal septum, which consists partly of cartilage and partly of bone. The cartilage of the nasal septum grows throughout life.

Typical causes of a deviated nasal septum

Since the cartilage of the nasal septum continues to grow throughout life, it can gradually begin to fold and bend if there is not room for it in the nose. 
 
Sports injuries and other injuries to the nose can also cause internal deviation of the nose. Internal deviation of the nose can cause poor space and thus reduced airflow through the nose.

Symptoms and discomfort

The nasal septum may well be deviated without causing symptoms, and at the same time the exterior of the nose need not be changed even though the nose is deviated internally. 
 
With moderate to severe deviation inside the nose, the airflow through the nose is impeded, which can cause discomfort with breathing through the nose. One can try medical treatment with nasal spray to increase the airflow through the nose. If nasal spray does not remedy the problem, surgery of the nasal septum can be a solution. 

Treatment

The operation is performed under general anaesthesia using a nasal chisel, whereby the overgrown areas of the nasal septum are corrected, trimmed and straightened up.

2 weeks ago I had my nasal septum corrected and my turbinate bones treated at CPH Privathospital in Farum. “After a week I was at a check-up and everything was perfect”

I have suffered with my sinuses for many years; 25 years ago I had a larger clearing out done; my nasal wall was deviated due to many cauterizations to stop nosebleeds, and that no longer held. I turned to CPH Farum, where I was promised a new, better clearing of the sinuses as well as straightening of my nasal wall. The result is excellent; I could get better air right after the operation, and at the same time Claudia would call me the day after as there was slight bleeding after the operation. I was allowed to SMS Claudia and get answers to my worries; after a week I was at a check-up and everything was perfect ” I could taste ” it was a new sensation, no more bleeding.

Operation for a deviated nasal septum

I was operated on for a deviated nasal septum by Claudia, and I have had a really good journey. I was given good guidance and am very satisfied with the subsequent follow-up. It was a completely painless process and Claudia is very empathetic and enormously skilled.

Operation for a deviated nasal septum, enlarged turbinate bones and repeated sinus infections

I have now completed my treatment after an operation for a deviated nasal septum, enlarged turbinate bones and recurrent sinusitis. The operation was performed by chief consultant Claudia Becker, and throughout the entire journey I have felt in the best hands. The operation proceeded completely without complications, and I was both advised and examined before and after the operation, so that I felt completely safe. It has been really nice to be treated by a doctor with such a great overview and huge experience. It means a lot when you have never been operated on before.
I am now as good as new, completely symptom-free, and simply glad that it is so well over.

So – thank you for an outstandingly good treatment – and also thank you to the staff in the recovery ward for their warm and loving care.

Highly skilled surgeons and staff

It is the second time I have received treatment at CPH Privathospital, and I am in every way confirmed that they have both highly competent surgeons and skilled staff across the specialities. My operation for a deviated nasal septum and enlarged turbinate bones with Claudia Becker went without problems, and I could not have wished for better orientation about the procedure or more professional, careful and caring treatment. There was a bit of trouble with the house’s facilities along the way in my journey, but that does not change the fact that CPH Privathospital deserves 5 stars

I have long had problems with a deviated septum in the nose as well as generally narrow passage. This led to an increasing tendency to snoring. Claudia Becker corrected the septum and reduced the turbinate bones. Everything went super well and, to my surprise, actually painlessly.
