Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a widespread disease and the most common form of arthritis. Some people live well with osteoarthritis and do not feel ill. In others, the disease causes severe pain and affects both functional capacity, mobility and quality of life.

What is osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis (arthrosis) is a form of arthritis in which cartilage and tissue around the joints gradually break down.
Some people live without problems with osteoarthritis and do not feel ill. In others, osteoarthritis causes severe pain, and the disease affects both functional capacity, mobility and quality of life.

Symptoms of osteoarthritis

  • Joint pain
  • Tender and stiff joints
  • Cracking and grinding in the joints

All joints can be affected by arthrosis, but the following are most commonly affected:

  • Thumb
  • Big toe
  • Hip
  • Knee
