Osteoarthritis or artificial knee joint

After the age of 50, virtually all people have osteoarthritis in one or more joints. Osteoarthritis is therefore also the most common joint disease, which manifests itself by the cartilage in the joint wearing away, thereby causing pain, restricted movement, joint misalignment and reduced function.

The most common reason for needing an artificial knee joint is osteoarthritis.

You will always be thoroughly examined by our consultant before the operation is planned. Based on your symptoms, the clinical examination and medical imaging, the consultant will plan the further course. You will naturally receive all the information you need to feel confident about the upcoming treatment.

The artificial joint

The knee prosthesis consists of 3 parts, which replace the worn knee joint and may be relevant for you who suffer from severe osteoarthritis in the knee.

The three parts are positioned on the femur, the tibia and on the kneecap, where they replace the worn joint surfaces. The femoral component and the tibial component consist of stainless steel which is fixed with bone cement. The tibial component also consists of a metal plate with a keel that extends into the medullary cavity of the tibia.

On top of the metal plate sits plastic (polyethylene), which forms a joint with the prosthesis component on the femur. The prosthesis component on the kneecap is made of plastic and is likewise fixed with bone cement. The bone cement used is thoroughly tested and manufactured by a recognised manufacturer.

CPH Privathospital reports to the Danish Knee Arthroplasty Register

Nationally, the quality of knee operations is registered and monitored in the Danish Knee Arthroplasty Register (database). CPH Privathospital reports all knee operations to this database, so there is monitoring and control of our operations on an equal footing with other clinics/hospitals that implant artificial knees.

Minimally invasive surgical techniques

At CPH Privathospital, knee operations are performed exclusively by experienced orthopaedic surgeons. We use the best materials and techniques, which ensure minimal surgical wounds. With so-called minimally invasive surgery, you experience less pain, less bleeding and faster mobilisation, which means you can return to your everyday life more quickly without much pain.
