Runner’s knee

In sports with high knee loading, there is a significant risk of overuse injuries that can trigger pain. This is called “runner’s knee”

What are the symptoms of runner’s knee?

If you run a lot, increase your training interval, get new running shoes, or run on a different surface, you may experience pain on the outside of the knee. Irritation of the bursa in the knee can trigger pain while you run.

How is runner’s knee treated?

It is important that you have your knee pain examined quickly. The doctor will perform an ultrasound scan to make the correct diagnosis.

To become symptom-free, it is important that you relieve the knee and protect it from running. A corticosteroid injection may be necessary. We have great success with shockwave therapy, where more than 85% of our patients become symptom-free. Read more about shockwave therapy here.

In rare cases, surgery may be necessary, where a so-called debridement of the knee is performed.
