Biography

Kjeld Dons qualified as a doctor from the University of Copenhagen in 1982 and completed his specialist training in neurosurgery at Rigshospitalet in 1993. He passed the European Board Examination in Neurological Surgery in neurosurgery in 1994.

During his 20-year employment at Rigshospitalet, Kjeld Dons was head of spine surgery for 8 years, and he also served as clinical head of the department for 5 years.
Since 2008, Kjeld Dons has worked exclusively in the private sector, and he was a partner at Københavns Privathospital.

Since 1.7.2018, Kjeld Dons has been in charge of spine surgery at CPH Privathospital.

His experience includes more than 5,000 neck and spine operations as well as numerous other neurosurgical procedures.

Years of education and appointments

  • The publication list comprises 17 works as well as 3 textbook chapters. Kjeld Dons has participated in and taught at numerous scientific courses and has given 20 scientific lectures at international congresses, and at a number of these he has served as chairman and moderator.

Membership of associations and societies

  • Kjeld Dons is a member of Eurospine and of the North American Spine Society (NASS).

Current and former workplaces

  • Kjeld Dons has been a clinical associate professor of neurosurgery for 12 years and has been in charge of the spine course of the specialist training programme in neurology and neurosurgery for 16 years.
  • Kjeld Dons is a co-founder of and member of both the Danish Neurosurgical Society (DNKS) and the Danish Society for Spinal Surgery, and he was chairman of DNKS 1997-2000.
  • Since 2002, Kjeld Dons has been an expert in neurosurgery for the Danish Council of Forensic Medicine.
